About Barby
Barby
Ream has always had a passion for creating playful and interesting
visual experiences. She launched her successful first solo exhibition in Seattle
in 1999,
titled "Take Time for Music" at Art by Fire, Ltd. The work consisted of
large fabricated steel musical instruments as well as some smaller
ceramic, bronze, and cast iron pieces. Her work has since been shown in
a variety of galleries and shows around the Pacific Northwest.
Barby spent three years working for Fabrication Specialties, Ltd, a
Seattle-based art fabrication shop. Projects she worked on include
major installations in Seattle, Finland, Alaska, Arizona, and
Washington, D.C. She gained further experience working for a
Seattle glass artist for three years.
Barby's education includes a B.A. in art history from Whitman
College, art marketing and business classes at Crow's Shadow Art
Institute and two years of industrial welding at Walla Walla Community
College. She has also studied metal casting and fabrication at the
University of Washington and Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle.
Her interests extend beyond art as well. Barby is a licensed massage
therapist and has studied the healing arts for years. She has
competed in multiple triathlons and was a
starting middle blocker for Whitman's varsity volleyball team, receiving
honors and national ranking for her talent on the court. She loves to
ski and her first love will always be horses. Yes, Barby does play some
instruments, which include the guitar, saxophone, piano, and she also
sings.
Barby grew up in Seattle, WA. She is currently living in Los
Angeles. She is available for
private commissions, gallery shows, custom fabrication and public indoor
and outdoor installations.
